Christine Anu is guest on NITV’s Awaken this week, discussing her new album Deadly Red Shoes.

It’s been 20 years since Christine Anu broke through the glass ceiling of recording Indigenous artists with her album Deadly Red Shoes. On the anniversary of her ARIA recognition, the singer, songwriter and actress tells Stan Grant what it was like to be thrust into stardom and the highs and lows of carving a career as a performing artist. Touching on her career beginnings, Christine opens up about her identity, her passion for performing from a young age and the story behind the hit song My Island Home. She also discusses Indigenous representation in the arts industries and the moment she was chosen to represent Australia on the world stage at the 2000 Sydney Olympics Closing Ceremony.
