Simulcast Tuesday begins….

Update: Seven & Nine are simulcasting Reality premieres, but TEN confirms MasterChef will not.

As tipped last week, Seven is simulcasting House Rules on 7TWO and 7mate on Tuesday night.

It airs from 7:30 – 9pm and is a move that will likely force the hand of opposition networks.

Where a network simulcasts on multichannels, they have the option of merging the numbers into a single figure or breaking into separate numbers.

This post will update should any other networks be scheduling Tuesday simulcasts (put money on it).

Update: TEN confirms it will not be simulcasting MasterChef Australia, showing confidence in an established brand. Hurrah.

Nine is simulcasting Reno Rumble on GO!

  1. From a technical perspective, simulcasting the same program on 3 channels can mean only one data stream, 1080P video 320K 7.2 sound with multi-camera angles and picture in picture. Just like the ‘Digital Revolution’ plans that were suggested all those years ago. It’d be interesting to see how our current TV’s cope with random changes to bitrate and listen to the howls from the ‘SD only’ people, the very people that are holding back the transition of the ‘main’ channels to HD. Just a thought….

  2. Just checked the situation here in Perth and weirdly, Seven is not actually simulcasting. It’s the same show (House Rules) but the playout differs by a few minutes across the 3 channels. In fact, the main channel is behind the other two, which is sort of even weirder.

Nine’s 9 and 99 weren’t exact in sync either but differed by only a few seconds.

Anyway, enough crap, back to the ABC…

  3. Not surprised at TEN’s decision to not simulcast MasterChef, it already rates well and last year it was comfortably over a million viewers.
I want to know when they will stop simulcasting Family Feud. Great show but 3 channels is a tad desperate especially when it has been on the air for close to 10 months.

  4. I guess Nine have to way up whether it’s worth it for Reno Rumble, would simulcasting get more than the 200 odd thousand The Big Bang Theory, the 190 odd thousand Poirot or the 200 odd thousand Agatha Christie’s Marple often get on the secondary channels. By not simulcasting Nine may actually win on total numbers, sure Reno Rumble may not win however on an all channels basis who knows.

  5. rating is going have filed day tommorrow lol, i’ll be watch reno tonight, masterchef tommorrow morning and finally house rules at midday , massive viewing tonight

  6. We had more choice when we had only 5 stations to view.Bring on the 730 M Rated shows,we may get some choice programs!,wait it’s only a dream,

  7. “TEN confirms it will not be simulcasting MasterChef Australia, showing confidence in an established brand.”

Good on them. However, that simply implies that they don’t have confidence in Family Feud being able to stand on its own.

  8. I am actually disappointed that MasterChef Australia will not be simulcast on ONE. Season 7 will be shown in India from next Monday on pay TV channel Star World Premiere, in full HD. If MC is produced in HD and can be shown overseas in HD, why can’t we see it in HD here?

  9. Simulcasting should be outlawed but all channels do it at some time or another and look at 10 doing it with Family Feud every night that should definitely be banned, at least 7 simulcast of House Rules is for one night only as the launch of the programme and am surprised that 9 and 10 did not do the same thing as everyone likes to copy everyone else.

  10. Simulcasting like this should be outlawed. If Nine and Ten follow suit, which is extremely likely, that means 9 channels are being taken up by three programs. Free to Air TV needs all the help it can get at the moment with the introduction of so many cheap Pay-view alternatives. Shonky moves like this aren’t beneficial for the networks in the long ran as they drive viewers to look for other options.
