Supergirl is getting her own series.

CBS has approved the project developed by Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash, Brothers and Sisters) and Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family, The New Normal).

The series features Melissa Benoist (Glee) as Kara Zor-El, who was born on Krypton but has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin since arriving on Earth. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

It also features Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh and David Harewood.

The latest superhero series will make five DC/WBTV series on the air in the US: Gotham on FOX, the CW’s Arrow, The Flash and iZombie on the CW, and Constantine on NBC -although the latter may not be long for this universe.

Supergirl has previously appeared in Smallville and had a 1984 feature film starring Helen Slater. Slater plus Dean Cain Jeremy Jordan and Malina Weissman also guest star in the Pilot.

The series is expected to be a Nine property in Australia.

  1. I just wish that channel 9 had the flash especially now they are finally showing S3 of arrow with the crossover of the flash & arrow & supergirl is going to crush it because they say that since supergirl is in the same universe we can get more crossovers & they got another spin off which is also going to be awesome

  2. Supergirl? Are they kidding? Even when I was a kid Supergirl was regarded as a joke and a pale imitation of Superman. Let’s hope this show is quarantined on Go! and doesn’t infect the main channel or GEM.

  3. Are there no original ideas in USA any more?? OMG they have run out of ideas. At least throughout the 80’s and 90’s they gave us shows like The Greatest American Hero.

  4. The costume’s a little drab, with no yellow. Part of the fun of superheroes was the colour in their costumes, which is totally lost in modern DC interpretations. Also not happy that they will be race bending iconic Superman character Jimmy Olson. In this version he will be a big buff black man, who doesn’t look like he’d need rescuing from Superman or Supergirl. Why not give the character a different name, instead of changing the character totally but keeping the name?

  5. Ok Marley, didn’t recognise her with the blonde do.

Nine may try to show it their main channel, and then dump it and move it all over the place has they have other WB shows, Or they could show it on Go! (since they are replacing repeats with new eps of Gotham and Arrow now), or they could on sell it to Fox 8 like The Flash. Its a lottery.

  6. So channel 9 passes up on the flash & we get super girl instead that’s weird hey David can you look into it whether the flash is ever going be on Channel 9 at some point

  7. Shame on it possibly a Nine series, it will probably start on the main channel, play for a few weeks, change slots, and then be taken off completely to resurface a few months later on Go. Kudos to TEN for playing Empire out on the same night, ok it is a bit later but at least we knew where it was. I lost track of Dallas on Nine, and I wonder if the new series of Arrow wil suffer the same fate…probably will.
