Nine has now sent through a press release with details of its controversial 60 Minutes interview with wellness ‘poster girl’ Belle Gibson.

The Nine show has come in for considerable criticism over reports it has paid $45,000 for the interview.

Nine has claimed it does not comment on payment for its interviews, but last year producer Tom Malone said of its interview with the Australian parents of ‘Baby Gammy,’ “We never comment on any commercial arrangements between 60 Minutes and our interview subjects but given the nature of this story, it’s important our viewers know that no money has been or will be paid to the parents.”

Belle Gibson: The Whole Hoax
It was the lie that rocked Australia. A young, beautiful woman is given the terrible news she has inoperable brain cancer and only four months to live. Belle Gibson is courageous – she tries chemotherapy and radiotherapy before turning to alternative medicine to battle the disease. Thankfully it seems to work and she tells the world through social media, encouraging others to try the same. It’s a truly inspiring story. Hundreds of thousands of sympathetic followers and fellow sufferers live every step of her journey and celebrate her success as she becomes the poster girl for the alternative wellness industry. There’s an award-winning app, and a cookbook. But it is all a lie. Belle Gibson doesn’t have cancer – she never did. Until this day, Belle claims unscrupulous natural therapists duped her into believing she was dying, but this Sunday 60 Minutes will reveal the proof that this is a lie too – Belle Gibson is not a victim. She is a fraud.

Negotiating with ISIS
Australians are renowned the world over as intrepid travellers. In fact last year alone we made more than nine million trips overseas. What if one of us were to be kidnapped and held hostage for a ransom? Should the Australian government pay up? Well don’t hold your breath. Like the United Kingdom and the United States, Australia refuses to negotiate with terrorists, but in Europe it’s a very different story. They do pay, and their citizens are released, largely unharmed and free to live a normal life. You might agree with Australia’s tough stance, but what if it was your loved one? Your mother or father, your daughter or son? Would you want our government to pay?

  1. Think channel 7 Sunday night will be far more interesting than this dribble on 9, think its disgusting what this girl did and it appears that she is now getting paid mega bucks for being deceitful, wonder if this will open the flood gates for other people to try something similar, can’t channel 9 see what kind of outcome this could cause, shame on you 9.

  2. I think id rather watch ch7 sunday night and watch the beautiful story of a 6 year old boy who was born without a face and the doctors built him one.

  3. I have never heard of her? …….. I bet commercial tv, helped her along the way though. Out of curiosity
how many times did she appear on tv segments? Is it any different from all the sports stars who sing the praises of vitamins for money? or all the diets out there, lets face it advertising companies do this all the time ……. I don’t believe advertisements so why would you believe someone with a Facebook page?

  4. There’s a petition being circulated on change.org re this. Her payment from 60 Minutes and other monies she’d profited by from her fraud should be donated to cancer research – and she should be charged with fraud – obtaining money by false pretenses.

  5. No longer watch 60 minutes due to the 8.30pm timeslot.

Will not watch an interview where someone does the wrong thing and gets rewarded with payment.

  6. This self-serving charlatan should not be given a public platform and I condemn 60Minutes for doing so. I would rather see a story on sick people who took Belle Gibson’s “wellness advice” and the negative impact it has had on their lives.
I refuse to watch it and hope others do the same.
