Airdate: 2015 Helpmann Awards

This year's Helpmann Awards will be broadcast Live from Sydney’s Capitol Theatre on Foxtel Arts.

Foxtel Arts will broadcast the 2015 Helpmann Awards Live from Sydney’s Capitol Theatre on Monday 27 July at 7.30pm.

Last year’s event was delayed at a 9:30pm broadcast, so it’s good news for thespians this year.

The 2015 Helpmann Awards, now in its 15th year, will be hosted by one of Australia’s favourite live and dynamic performers and previous Helpmann Awards winner Todd McKenney and for the first time will be simulcast on foxtelarts.com.au

Spanning musical theatre, comedy, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and contemporary music, The Helpmann Awards recognise achievement and excellence in Australia’s vibrant live performance industry.

The awards will also feature spectacular live performances and an array of Australia’s biggest stars. Opening The 2015 Helpmann Awards is the full cast of Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed new production of Les Misérables, undisputedly one of the most popular musicals of all time.

The entertainment packed evening will also feature performances from the cast of the Tony Award winning musical, Once, for a one-off performance exclusively for the 2015 Helpmann Awards. The Australia Piano Quartet, one of the few ensembles worldwide committed to the piano quartet genre and previous Helpmann Awards nominee and Australia’s foremost illusionist, Cosentino – The Grand Illusionist.

The nominees were announced last night at simultaneous events in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, and Hobart. Anything Goes, Dirty Dancing- The Classic Love Story On Stage, Les Misérables and Once have all been nominated and celebrated in the ‘Best Musical’ category.

Nominees in the ‘Best Female Actor In A Musical’ are Caroline O’Connor (Anything Goes), Helen Dallimore (Blood Brothers), Madeline Jones (Once) and Patrice Tipoki (Les Misérables). Nominees for ‘Best Male Actor In A Musical’ are Hayden Tee (Les Misérables), Simon Gleeson (Les Misérables), Todd McKenney (Anything Goes) and Todd McKenney (La Cage Aux Folles).

A total of 42 awards will be presented at the 2015 Helpmann Awards, in addition to lifetime achievement awards, JC Williamson Award® and Sue Nattrass Award™.
