Friday night’s “naughty spot” on SBS this week features UK doco, The Naked Village.

Bound to be educational!

Lifting the lid on a quirky English village during one long, hot summer…welcome to Spielplatz, where the residents prefer to go naked.

The leafy village of Spielplatz looks like any other small suburb, except for one thing: the residents live their everyday lives totally and utterly naked.

Founded in 1929 by a family of naturists, today the village has around 30 houses. The residents are all average folk, a mix of old and new including many third generation villagers. They can’t understand why ‘textiles’ – people who wear clothes – feel the need to cover up. However, all is not rosy in Spielplatz.

The village is struggling financially and there’s a temptation to cash in on the valuable land.

Can events such as a naked yoga day and naked body art festival attract new visitors?

Friday, 5 June at 9.30pm on SBS ONE.

  1. Presumably German Naturists.

The English climate would seem to be one pretty good reason to cover up. Another one would be that while Super Models look better naked, good tailoring can do wonders for the rest of us.
