MasterChef has given out its first Immunity pin for 2015, to contestant Billie McKay.

Last night the 23 year old Restaurant Manager from NSW defeated Reynold Poernomo, Sara Oteri and Jessie Spiby in a four way battle for the first guaranteed Immunity pin this season.

Reynold was arguably the favourite for the pin, but in the end her twice cooked glazed chicken won the judges’ favour.

Billie also wins the Power Apron going into tonight’s team challenge in two restaurants, with its advantage yet to be revealed.

  1. Please, oh Please – will someone in the control room at Channel 10 adjust the volume levels on Masterchef!!! The corny bang-bang “music” is always irritatingly loud, but on the immunity pin edition rescreened today, Wednesday, the sound was so uneven that it was finger on the volume button for the entire episode. Couldn’t hear the judges unless the volume was way up; but volume had to be down because of the ghastly “dramatic” er – music. Background music is supposed to be just that; not something akin to the crashing of saucepans in the viewers’ ears. Come on (as the judges keep saying) Channel 10: the show is perfectly capable of engendering a bit of excitement and anticipation without you having to over-egg it with horrible noise. A Pity – a good dish, but overcooked to billyo.

  2. Huh? It’s week 7; it’s not too unusual for the first immunity pin to take this long.

FWIW last year it also took until week 7, and it was considerably more dodgy than last night’s – Donovan Cook plated up 5 seconds late because his dish wasn’t “perfect”, so Laura won by default…

  3. i just find it funny how they will forced to give the first Immunity pin away, its been this long and no one had got it , so glad it was someone like billie that got it,

    1. Billie is on the show to get noticed for TV shows why else does she doll herself up like a.model, she is in a cooking contest for goodness sake

  4. I think they had to try something different re the immunity thing because it gets a bit bit boring when the contestants don’t beat the chefs. In fact, it had become so predictable that we didn’t watch immunity challanges.

    1. Agree too. Similar was the immunity challenge when one of the contestants was up against a former competitor (Callum?).
Although she didn’t win (they both put up mediocre dishes IIRC) I was thinking that had she won the others who’d been in the hunt for a pin, and who’d each had to compete against some of the best chefs in the business, would have a case to complain.
