Former cast members of Gilmore Girls reunited this week at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas.

A sellout-crowd were in raptures at the 90 minute panel, looking back on the show’s 7 seasons.

In attendance were Lauren Graham (Lorelai), Alexis Bledel (Rory), Danny Strong (Doyle), Jackson Douglas (Jackson), Jared Padalecki (Dean), John Cabrera (Brian), Keiko Agena (Lane), Kelly Bishop (Emily), Liz Torres (Miss Patty), Liza Weil (Paris), Matt Czuchry (Logan), Milo Ventimiglia (Jess), Scott Patterson (Luke), Todd Lowe (Zack) and Yanic Truesdale (Michel) and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino.

There was a special tribute to the late Edward Herrmann at which there reportedly wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

The panel also included discussions about how Gilmore Girls would fare in today’s TV landscape and if there might ever be a GG movie. Sherman-Palladino also spoke about her upcoming unrelated projects.

  1. Finally got a chance to watch the reunion. Quite lengthy at 1hr and 45 mins but well worth watching. It was interesting to hear the story of how the show came together and why the show progressed in a certain way and the actors thoughts on where they think their characters would be now. I think Gilmore Girls deserved a better ending than what it got and hopefully they make a movie or short series to give it the ending it deserves.

  2. I’ve been recording GGs on Gem, and have been blown away by how good and well crafted the show was. Even though its been tough keeping up with 5 eps a week, when I have other shows to record, its been worth it.

    1. Yes I was thinking the same thing, the wardrobe, lighting, sets, cars, furniture etc is dated a little now but as far as the script writing, direction, pacing and acting goes – all these basics were done very professionally indeed. I only started watching it because I was curious when I heard that Jenji Kohan got a start producing and writing some of this.

  3. Have been watching some of the early episodes, it really is like watching a different quaint world that no longer exists but is still in living memory and really not that long ago, how big are the coffee cups? And how small and how much of a novelty are the mobile phones? People sit around and watch TV on 4:3 CRT screens! People walk around with books (gasp!), and read them if waiting for a bus. Movies projected onto a screen. People making mix tapes for their boyfriends/girlfriends. People shopping for CDs in a music store!

Not usually my sort of TV but obviously has a hard core devoted fan base for good reasons.

  4. A fairly impressive list. Padalecki is a bit of a surprise, he distanced himself from his first role on GG after he got Supernatural and they frequently mocked it in the show.

They’ve been talking about a movie since 2007 when the CW cancelled it. Sherman-Palladino wanted to do her own ending, after having been replaced as show-runner in 2006.

  5. I love Gilmore Girls. I don’t think they make shows like that anymore. Would love a movie if it was done right. A shame its not available on Netflix here.

  6. i love love Gilmore Girls. it still makes me laugh, cry and anything in between. I hope a Gilmore Girls Movie is coming soon because the fans need to see the long awaited Luke and Lorelai Wedding and hopefully Rory will get married too.

  7. One of my favourite shows ever, it was so wonderful to see the cast together again, so many talented people. Would love a reunion movie or limited series (maybe on Netflix?!) as it didn’t end satisfactorily.

  8. I watch the video (why it was edited I have no idea) but it was nice to see them again, Melissa McCarthy wasn’t there because of work and promoting her new movie. Still weird she couldn’t find the time and they didn’t mention her in the video. Also they also left an empty chair on stage for Ed, which was a nice touch.

There was mention of a possible TV movie or something but unfortunately nothing firm yet, even though all the main cast have inferred they would like to do something. Whether it’s a TV Movie, mini series even if it’s on a new service like NetFlix and not network or cable TV.

In the US NetFlix has the show which by all reports has now been remastered in HD at 16:9, because it was original shot on film. Unfortunately right now it’s not on the local NetFlix but can be caught on GEM, iTunes and of course DVD.
