Fame is getting another TV series set at the NY High School for Performing Arts.
The original MGM movie in 1980 spawned a TV series in 1982, featuring some of the original cast including Debbie Allen, Gene Anthony Ray and Lee Curreri (it even included Janet Jackson).
MGM Television has been developing a reboot since 2012, with Smash and Gossip Girl producer Josh Safran attached.
US cable network Lifetime will air the series, now with Nigel Lythgoe co-producing, from MGM and A+E Studios.
The original TV series ran for six seasons and 136 episodes. Star and choreographer Debbie Allen most recently directed on Empire.
Fame also spawned a movie remake and a stage musical.

It could never have happened while Glee was around … and probably should still not happen!
“Remember! Remember! Remember!”
As long as they have the song I’ll be happy!!!
“Fame/I’m gonna live forever…”
They weren’t joking.
Er..hasn’t it be done…it was called Glee.
Glee was a musical, where the characters burst into song . Fame was a drama with some dancing.
…and singing.
