Jessie J. v Delta puts the “v” in The Voice

British singer upstaged the contestants last night, creating tension with Delta Goodrem.

Coaches and producers ramped up the drama on The Voice last night with tension between Jessie J and Delta Goodrem upstaging acts hoping for their shot at fame.

Jessie J played with the show’s format when she suggested two acts choose the Madden Brothers, once after all 4 chairs had turned, and a second time when an act had to choose between Delta and the Madden Bros.

The moves appeared to rile Delta who accused the British singer of throwing her “under the bus.”

On another occasion when only the two females had turned their chairs, Jessie J. went and sat on the stage in what appeared to be a move to overshadow Goodrem.

Through much of the show last night, Delta looked uneasy. But Jessie J. has arguably brought some useful “tough love” advice for contestants this year.

Hopefully the acts get to hear it in between the feudin’.

The tension also attracted plenty of social media tension last night.

  1. Interestingly Delta’s album was also the most successful album in Australia in 19 years. It was the highest selling album of the decade in Australia and the equal 6th Best selling album of all time in Australia. Amazing what a bit of research finds.

  2. Not sure if anyone else heard it but at one point Jessie J asked Delta about her “spirit animal”. Delta asked how she worked it out and Jessie J basically said that Delta would be a squirrel and she would be an eagle. Talk about an ego.
I applaud Jessie J for her honesty in critiquing however as Dicko learnt, you still need a filter when giving feedback even if you think it’s “honest”.

  3. I for one, think it is all staged to get people watching for the controversy. They do the same sort of thing on the American version (what I have seen of it anyway).

  4. The problem in all past seasons is that the judges just fed the contestants the same regurgitated praise. It made for bland, predictable viewing. Look at Delta- she constantly waits until another judge turns then she follows suit. Then repeats the same ‘I’ll take you on your journey’ sentiments.
Jessie J is constructive in her criticism and it seems to be pushing the other judges the be more engaging. This season has been the most entertaining thus far.

  5. Jessie J and Delta having a sledge was just unacceptable. People took to social media expressing their hate towards these two coaches. I’m sick and tired of this kind of nonsense between these two.

  6. Oh nasty TV – i am sure the bogans have missed you

Enjoy your rubbish Australia – this is the type of crap you like. Stop complaining about the quality of TV going down the toilet and then supporting a show like this where is obvious its not about the singing and its all about the egos of the hosts

    1. Agree with your sentiments DansDans but I think the ones complaining about the quality of TV are probably not watching these shows. According to the ratings, so many can’t get enough of this reality garbage. The rest of us shake our heads, bemused, wondering when Australian taste got so bad.

  7. When the talent is dull people need something else to watch. Jessie j has been the only good thing about this season, bringing some much needed negativity.

  8. Drama generally = ratings. There did appear to be genuine conflict between the two women but I’m positive it was made to look a lot worse than it actually was…

  9. I’m a bit over the cliched cat fight; two girls and their rivalry. Not helped by the commentaries from Maddens and Ricky in those stylised inserts where they make mention of wow 2 female coaches – radical!!!! It’s all in the editing and what narrative the producers want to show. There is plenty of convivial banter between the two, and the focus is on the tension. I’m not overly familiar with Jessie J’s career, but such a difference between her appearance and demeanor as a coach compared to the ads that she has filmed as well as those stylised profiles on the singers. More music please. Less twaddle.

  10. Still not sure why this show is called The Voice when it is all about the mentors. You cannot even here the contestant sing without overhearing the judges chatting to each other and making fools of themselves. At least on Idol the judges respected the contestant while they performed and then spoke.

  11. Jessie J thinks she is special… memo to her, she is one person from a panel of 4 judges (Madden brothers I include as one person). How dare she say such things. She always needs to open he mouth and speak, always to get attention on her. Delta has every right to be fuming and I fully support Delta in this situation! Jessie J needs to go and do some research on Delta Goodrem as she may find out some unknown facts (Delta is the second biggest Australian star in music after John Farnham)!

    1. These facts must be unknown to a lot of people – I would put people like Kylie Minogue, The Bee Gees, Olivia Newton John and AC/DC way ahead of Delta

      1. Agree but I’d also have put Rolf Harris ahead of Goodrem. She might help her case if she released an album more often than once every 4 years. I guess fans of her music are really looking hopefully toward 2016.

    2. Maybe it’s based on chart longevity, with Whispering Jack and Innocent Eyes sales. That probably excludes Saturday Night Fever which is understandable. If it’s body of work then yes others would presumably outrank her.

      1. You are right there David. Delta has the longest stay at number 1 with her album Innocent Eyes. Which spent 29 Weeks on the top spot. She also has the 2nd highest selling album by an Australian Artist in the country. Behind only John Farnham’s Whispering Jack.

      2. She’s referring to sales. Innocent Eyes sold 1.1 million in Australia alone. Whispering Jack is the only other Aus album to do that locally.

ACDC, Kylie etc all dwarf Delta’s numbers once you factor in international sales (Kylie’s Fever cleared 7.5 million internationally for example).
