‘MasterChef rigged!’ Fan fury as Georgia secures place in grand final

Angry fans accuse MasterChef of having favoured Georgia to win all season.

MasterChef fans were up in arms last night after Georgia secured a place in the Grand Final after a disastrous service in the first part of TEN’s cook-off.

Jessica was eliminated despite serving up excellent food on schedule in a two course dinner for 20 guests.

It was a high-pressure challenge as they cooked all the dishes -completely solo- with Gary telling the three they served up the best dishes they had ever tasted in the MasterChef kitchen.

But Georgia’s complicated first course put her woefully behind her competitors.

Despite the delays, Matt Preston told her “Deliciousness wins out every time,” culling Jessica from the final for her grapefruit, white chocolate and popcorn dessert.

But many viewers were in disagreement, taking to social media to accuse the show of favouritism.

Billie and Georgia will now face off in tonight’s MasterChef Australia finale.

Billie is now the one to beat.

  1. Poor Georgia. I’m not sure if 20K is worth all this.

Every year someone cops a bucket load of vitriol, rage, and spite online because of editing decisions that focus a prominent storyline on them (“gar! argh! she’s always on my screen sooking” people say, as if she’s done the edit herself, and as if emotions other than murderous rage are ignoble), and often I can’t help noticing because of being a somewhat older, or in her case, slightly plumper and hence more matronly young woman.

Peeps have to dump their inchoate fury, unconscious misogyny, and unacknowledged mother issues somewhere, I guess.

    1. “They just used the other ending filmed due to the controversy today”… that will be the next conspiracy.

Billie did incredible, and getting a job at the Fat Duck (even if it is the Australian one)… wow.

  2. Im a little surprised with the attacks. Yes Georgia took a long time but it was obviously worth the wait. I commend her for sticking to her guns and not changing her plating when Shannon told her to.

Her dessert looked delicious and well we just have to go by the 3 judges who by the way are the ones that tasted it that it was better than Jessica’s.Anyway I still think Billie will win. I mean the girl is a restaurant manager at age 23. She knows her way around food.
Gosh don’t remember this much outburst last year when Brent won and Andy the other year.

I am looking forward to seeing heston’s creation they have to make.

  3. People complaining about a reality show being “rigged”?

Even though they didn’t taste the food, partake in the challenge or basically do anything except sit on their butts and occasionally hit a remote key?

Must be a day ending in “y” 😛

  4. I have nothing against the outcome, I was just unhappy with the way the story was put together. After watching all of the Georgia drama unfold in the kitchen last night, it wasn’t a satisfying ending. I don’t feel all that airtime was justified considering she ended up staying, and it wasn’t fair on departing contestant Jessica.

  5. I’ve always felt that the judging on Masterchef is legit. The judges regularly say that taste is the deciding factor when comparing dishes.
How can viewers, who only see the food on tv, think they are in a better position to make that judgement ?

  6. Meh I don’t see it, Only problem Georgia had with her dishes were her quenelles weren’t perfect but that’s not taking away taste, Jessica’s Gel tasted like Gelatine and they didn’t quite like her popcorn combo so 2 small things wrong with flavour and as they have said for years its all down to flavour

  7. Is anybody really surprised at this? She has been the show’s pet since the first episode. There has been a lot of favouritism towards her and she has had by far the lion’s share of the cutaway, on camera comments. I began calling the show “GeorgiaChef” weeks ago, so obvious was the cosseting and favouritism show towards her.

  8. It has been clear since the very start that Georgia is their clear favourite. I have watched this season on and off, and she’s the only one I remember because she’s always shown narrating everything. The concept of the eliminations in the show is silly because the judges just eliminate anybody they want for whatever petty reason they deem to be believable enough. I doubt there is too much integrity in the show, they seem to make the rules up as they go. For example, one thing sending one contestant home one elimination, will be overlooked on another contestant another day. It’s just fickle.

I am somewhat surprised Billie is in it still because, editing wise, I didn’t even know who she was until past halfway through the season. Jessica losing was no shock because everybody else is just a supporting act in the Georgia show.
