When he spoke with Kerry O’Brien two years ago, legendary broadcaster Clive James wan’t sure if it would be his last-ever interview.

But he recently spoke with ABC’s Europe correspondent, Philip Williams.

On Sunday ABC News 24 screens the extended version of Williams’ interview, which aired in part earlier this week on 7:30.

In a wide-ranging interview Clive talks about his attitude to life and death; the things that inspire and concern him; the recognition of women and the rising tide of extremist violence.

He tells Phil that despite being diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010, he’s as surprised as anyone to still be writing and producing new work, and the disease has done nothing to dampen his work ethic.

Asked how much of him is still ‘Australian’, he’s quick to respond:

“A large part of what I rather boastfully call my mind, is about as Australian as a lawn full of bindi-eyes… and will be right to the end.”

Sunday, August 23 at 4:30pm AEST on ABC News 24.
