The Footy Show‘s Erin Molan will host Nine’s reality series, The NRL Rookie, which begins production next week.

She will be joined by former NRL players Mark “MG” Geyer and Adrian Lam as Forwards and Backs Coaches respectively, as well as Kate Baecher, the official team psychologist and Head Coach Brad Fittler.

From next week, the judging team will be putting 25 hopeful rookies through their paces in challenges and matches culminating in a live broadcast where all 16 NRL clubs have the opportunity to “draft” the eventual winner.

Currently a member of Triple M radio’s breakfast show, The Grill Team, and a regular guest panellist on The Footy Show, Mark Geyer has been involved in rugby league for more than two decades. In a 13-year career, he played 180 games for three clubs and won a premiership with the Penrith Panthers. The three-time international was etched in State of Origin folklore with his famed stare-off against “The King”, Wally Lewis, in 1991.

Roosters’ great Adrian Lam has extensive playing and coaching experience – he represented the Queensland Maroons 14 times in Origin, as well as playing 119 games for Wigan Warriors in the UK Super League. Lam has a wealth of experience as a captain – he took Papua New Guinea to the 1995 and 2000 World Cups – and his impressive coaching career then saw him take his country to the 2008 and 2013 World Cups.

Registered psychologist, consultant and trainer Kate Baecher has a military and corporate background. She has most recently worked with the Manly Sea Eagles to develop greater team cohesion and enhanced performance. She is currently completing a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology, exploring the impact of physical injury on mental health disorders.

It will go to air on the Nine Network in 2016.
