Heroes Reborn “same time” as US

Seven hints at a daytime simulcast for the Heroes sequel, due in September.

Seven is teasing that Heroes Reborn will air “same time” as the US -which is great to hear.

This suggests a daytime simulcast for the sequel, perhaps with a primetime replay (both yet to be confirmed), and is a good move for a buzz series.

It wouldn’t be the first time a US drama has aired in simulcast with the US -Foxtel does it all the time- but it’s a relative rarity for Free to Air.

TEN has previously offered a Homeland simulcast, but only online not on broadcast, while ABC has offered a full season of Doctor Who simulcast with the UK.

It’s not clear if Heroes Reborn will be simulcast for a full season or just the premiere.

The series is due in late September.

  1. I’m shaking in anticipation! Well, not quite, but I am looking forward very much to seeing this new version of one of my favourite shows! Well done on the fast-track too! Also, now there is no more Shortland Street (booooo) I will have no problem recording the 11am airing! 🙂

  2. Network bosses would be concerned about all those PVR’s switching on for daytime simulcasts and viewers using the FF button during playback. “M” rated shows can be shown between 12pm – 3pm on schooldays, so yes, school hols are a problem. No such restrictions on Presto!

  3. I’ve also seem a promo for the new Wesley Snipe’s show The Player which says same time as the U.S. Perhaps seeing how well GoT did for both airings on Showcase has inspired them to give it a crack and see how it goes.

  4. Have been waiting for FTA daytime simulcasts to start happening for a long time.

I presume this will be on 7mate, maybe they could do a primary channel repeat the following Thursday and push the whole “see the next episode at the same time as the US, tomorrow 12:30pm” line.

  5. Reborn will premiere on Thurs 24th Sept, which means a friday daytime screening, but when would they re-air the ep. It can’t be on 7 that night as it’s AFL finals time. Unless 7 also airs it on thursday 24th, 12 hrs before US, which has happened before.

    1. The school holidays start in most states around the premiere time, so they won’t be able to show it during the day if it is M rated. It will be interesting to see how they try to work around this.

  6. Great idea. Especially if it bombs in primetime, you keep diehard fans happy at midday. Worked well for Game of Thrones on Foxtel. The daytime version rated pretty much level with the primetime version if I recall.

  7. The only good thing about this is that 7 may let the series run in that time slot. Surely they are not as concerned about ratings at 11am as much as 8.30pm.

  8. What does “same time” mean to PR? It could mean afternoon, or it could be loose language referring to same day, or even week. Though networks will change their minds at short notice depending on the ratings and what their competitors are doing

Afternoon slots are excellent for recording, they can’t clash with anything else interesting.
