The Block returns for its 11th series in early September, filling the space vacated by The Voice.

Five new teams, with limited renovating experience, take on the octagonal-shaped former motel into luxury apartments.

They will renovate each level into one 225 square metre apartment, featuring 360-degree vistas of Melbourne.

“I’ve nicknamed it the Blocktagon. It’s like a big meat pie, and the floor plan is really divided up into pieces of pie. So the lounge, dining and kitchen are three pieces of pie, and the lift well is the sauce in the middle. This is one of the hardest builds I’ve ever done, both in television and as a chippie,” said host Scott Cam.

He will again be joined by co-host Shelley Craft, judges Neale Whitaker, Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer, foremen Keith Schleiger and Dan Reilly.

Teams will be tasked with creating their own three-bedroom, four-bathroom apartment, each with an expansive outdoor terrace, taking in sweeping city views.

The series will kick off with a 24-hour challenge, the winner of which will be rewarded with first pick of what level they wish to renovate.

Meet our new Blockheads:

Dean (30) and Shay (29) from Newcastle, NSW – The Go-Getters
Suzi (44) and Vonni (39) from Gold Coast, QLD – The Single Mums
Whitney (29 ) and Andrew (29) from Melbourne VIC – The Sweethearts
Kingi (31) and Caro (31) from Townsville, Qld – The Larrikins
Luke (29) and Ebony (24) from Perth, WA – The 2nd Chance Siblings

  1. Given how many hours the Block airs per week now, the only way to for us to watch it – if at all – is the room reveal episodes and that’s it. Can’t give any one show 6+ hours a week to watch – there’s too many other shows to watch and hardly any from free to air TV.

    1. Couldn’t agree more. With all the recaps they put into the room reveal episodes anyway, you’re all caught up without having to watch the 4 or 5 nights of filler during the week.

  2. Hooray! Australia just doesn’t get enough of annoying wannabes taking credit for work done by tradespeople and product placement dressed up as entertainment. Hopefully Nine stretch this out to 3 hours a night so they won’t have to pretend that they care about quality television.

  3. ” This is one of the hardest builds I’ve ever done ” says Scotty the People’s Champion from Vaucluse? It must be some years since you actually got on the tools Scotty . Bet he said it with a straight face though – and worse – believed it.

  4. Lets hope this show rates poorly so that all these renovation shows get put on the scrap heap and buried, don’t channels have more ideas for different programmes, why do they have to milk these renovation shows to death, very sad state of affairs, definitely not on my viewing agenda.

  5. Oh thank goodness! It’s been almost a month since there was a renovation show on TV. I’m sure people were having withdrawels without their nightly dose of mindless drivel dragged out over 2 hours 5 nights a week. Could the networks also make sure there is a cooking show lined up to replace the Hot Plate when that finishes? I don’t think there’s been enough of them either.

    1. Can I say, the only two cooking shows that work in Australia are MKR (Channel 7) and the far-superior Masterchef (Channel 10)… They are the shows people like to watch as they are different from each other, but when other networks (Channel 9) decide to create their own, it fails miserably (i.e. a first season show should rate better than 900k. Moreover, if Channel 7 dares to show another season of House Rules I will scream!

      1. That’s not quite true. You are forgetting a wealth of SBS cooking shows, which is a very strong channel brand. Also LifeStyle channel does well with food. Hotplate has actually managed some decent figures if you are talking broad shows.

  6. I think Scott Cam could have been more imaginative with his “blocktagon” nickname. What about the “octo-bore”? Or the product-placement-donut?
