Virginia Trioli finds thief in car ….makes him wait for police.

"I got very very cross and told him to stand on the kerb, which he did, and I called the police," says angry ABC host.

ABC News Breakfast co-host Virginia Trioli had a scary moment when she found a man rummaging through her car in the early hours of the morning.

Never one to shirk from a challenge, she called the police and made the man wait -which he did!

Later recounting the tale on ABC this morning Trioli said she was “far too angry to be scared,”during the incident.

“I’m not going to lie. I didn’t use very good language at him. I may have sworn a few times. But I told him to get out of my car,” she said.

“I got very very cross and told him to stand on the kerb, which he did, and I called the police.

“It was the longest 4 minutes of my life while I stood there with him. I got very mad at him and told him (off) again. He was a bit apologetic.”

Trioli said the man said he didn’t have anywhere to sleep but had clearly been rummaging through the car.

“The police said ‘How did you manage to keep him here?’

“I said, ‘I asked him to stay and he did.’ Anyway the police took him away, but I hope he’s alright.”

She later discovered the thief had taken her car park pass.

Michael Rowland, somewhat startled by the actions of his co-host said upon finding the man, Trioli should have gone back inside and called the police. He couldn’t believe the man waited for the police to arrive.

“Mind you, just quietly so would I, if I’d been told to do that by you, too.”

  1. David, once again, your reach of stories is amazing. I saw Virginia relaying this yesterday. I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of her wrath at 4 in the morning! Formidable!
