Offspring creator Debra Oswald and and key writer Michael Lucas will not be a part of the show’s sixth season.

Both took to Twitter yesterday to wish the show well whilst confirming they have not rejoined the series

“I’m happy with where we took the story by the end of #offspring 5, so I’ve chosen not to be part of S6. I hope fans enjoy the new series,” said Oswald.

Lucas concurred, “Loved my years on #Offspring and wish it well, but like Deb, I’m not involved with season 6.”

Yesterday TEN was elated to announce the return of the fan favourite show.

TEN Chief Programming Officer, Beverley McGarvey, said: “It was no secret that we wanted to continue Nina’s adventures and we are thrilled to announce that Offspring will return to TEN for a sixth season in 2016.

“There are so many more chapters left in Nina’s life. We paused her story just as she had bravely navigated motherhood as a single parent rediscovering the joy and romance of life, while dealing with her fabulously messy family as they went about their unpredictable daily lives.

  1. With key writers departing there could be a concern that the show may not have the same writing quality that offspring has produced. Alternatively with new writers coming in they could inject something new into the show and take viewers on a completely new journey. Even though I liked how it finished and I’m in the not sure it should come back category I’m going to keep an open mind.

  2. After reading Debra’s tweet I was in two minds about Offspring’s return. The season five finale wrapped things up brilliantly. I hope season six doesn’t spoil that.
