Producers are in final negotiations with Offspring cast ahead of the hit drama’s return in 2016.

TEN announced last month Asher Keddie & Kat Stewart were signed to resume their roles as the Proudman sisters. Producer John Edwards has told TV Tonight he was confident of other cast returning.

“We’re plotting now and finally negotiating the last bits and pieces,” he said.

“We’re proceeding happily and it’s full steam ahead.

“We’re scripting until (the end of the year) and then we’re away.”

Despite creator Debra Oswald and writer Michael Lucas not returning, other writers are back on board.

Sets including the hospital wards are still in place.

Edwards was also buoyed by the massive social media reaction to the news, which contrasted to the 12 months it took to reach 100,000 Facebook likes.

“When they announced it a couple of weeks ago there was 39,000 Facebook likes in an hour and 80,000 by the end of the day. And there were very few negative or even sceptical comments. It was overwhelmingly positive,” he said.

“We’ve got good actors, good characters and stories, that’s all you can do.”

News of a sixth season is a win for TEN after fears the costs would rise, having surpassed 65 episodes and ruling it ineligible for further Screen Australia funding.

“TEN have obviously turned a corner and want to be positive. It’s become necessarily more expensive because of the legal things, but they’ve knuckled down, taken a deep breath and here we go!” he said.

Meanwhile his newest project The Beautiful Lie, starring Sarah Snook begins on ABC on October 18.
