ABC has now rescheduled the Four Corners episode on the secret network rescuing women and children held captive by ISIS.

This program was originally scheduled to air Monday 14 September, however rolling coverage of the Liberal leadership spill was broadcast in its place.

With this urgent warning, the phone drops out. Khalil can do nothing but hope the message has been received. He’s in the middle of an audacious rescue operation and everyone involved is in great danger.

Khalil is part of a small group of volunteers running a clandestine network inside ISIS controlled territory. They’ve helped rescue over 500 women and children, mainly from the minority Yazidi population, but it’s come at a cost, with three guides killed during their operations.

For the first time, this rescue network has allowed cameras in to film their work. In this powerful program from Channel 4’s Dispatches, filmmaker Edward Watts captures the tension as more and more calls for help come through. He’s there as the team tries to pinpoint the location of captive families and coordinate their escapes.

“It is a very dangerous road but it’s the only way to escape ISIS… it’s not over yet. They still might not make it.” Khalil

Watts is with Khalil when he sets off on his most ambitious rescue yet, and he films its heart-stopping conclusion.
