Dirty Laundry Live‘s Lawrence Mooney has had his driver’s licence suspended after speed cameras snapped him at 168kmh on East Link, maximum 100kmh, on Easter Sunday.

News Corp reports he told a court yesterday his speed had “crept up.”

“I’m not sure I accept it was a momentary loss of attention,” magistrate Domenic Lennon told him.

The court heard the ABC presenter contributes to dozens of charities, particularly the Mirabel Foundation which cares for orphaned children.

Mooney lost his licence for 12 months, ordered him to undertake a safe driving course, and fined him $1000.

  1. Just because hes occasionally on telly its a news article?. Hundreds of people break the law on the road all the time but they don’t get publicly shamed. Its not like hes a paid spokesperson of the anti-speed campaign or anything. Why do the mistakes of people in the media come with more consequences than non-celebrities?.

    1. “Why do the mistakes of people in the media come with more consequences than non-celebrities?”

It could be argued that people in the media are likely to get off much lighter in terms of punishment than non-celebrities.

        1. Got what he deserved? More like a slap on the wrist. 68km over the posted limit is not something does by accident.

As for killing someone, even at 40km/h a collision with a car can easily kill someone.
