ABC will air a News Special for Canberra viewers on Friday, “Fast Tracked: How Light Rail Got the Green Light for Canberra.”
In a special report ABC journalist Ewan Gilbert, explores the views of experts, the experience of commuters and the future prospects for light rail across the bush capital.
The ACT’s public transport system has a problem, but is light rail the solution?
It has the major parties at loggerheads and is fast becoming the defining issue of next year’s ACT election.
Labor is promising the rollout of a future-proof light rail public transport system. The Liberals say it will deprive Canberrans of important health, education and municipal services and they will tear up contracts if elected.
Friday November 27 at 7.30pm on ABC (ACT only). No 7.30 in the ACT on Friday.

Good to hear. At least Canberra viewers will get a break from wall-to-wall crap about terrorism. A pity the rest of the country will still have to suffer it on 7:30.
Yes light rail is the answer. Yes it is
That’s annoying. Will it be repeated on ABC24 or on iView?
Local viewers can watch the repeat program on ABC News 24 at 11:30pm AEDT or on iview.
No then. A bit silly to assume that a major new public transport project is of no interest to anyone outside of Canberra on Friday night.
The ABC 24 rpt will likely be the usual one of national show. If they post it on iView it would be available nationally which will do. Fingers crossed.
Before they used to broadcast the state shows nationally on the weekend, then on ABC 24.
Frankly I don’t think a Canberra light rail is of interest to viewers outside Canberra on a Friday night. I’d be happy to be proven wrong.
