Former X Factor contestant, who made it to boot camp in the 2014 series, has died aged just 19.

Former X Factor contestant Nathaniel O’Brien, who made it to boot camp in the 2014 series, has died aged just 19.

He died in when his car hit a tree on the Barrier Highway, near Burra, in South Australia.

He had performed at the Burra Country Music Festival on Sunday morning and was due to perform at the Tea Tree Gully Hotel on Sunday night.

In 2012, at just 16, O’Brien won Adelaide’s Next Superstar at the Entertainment Centre theatre. He has been listed as a finalist for best male vocal and best song in the 2015 Australian Country Music People’s Choice Awards which will be announced at to be announced in Tamworth in January.

He was named Most Promising Future Star for 2014 at the festival this year.

On Twitter former X Factor mentor Natalie Bassingthwaighte said, “My heart goes out to Nathaniel O’Brien’s family after hearing of his tragic passing. What a spectacular young man with the voice of an angel.”

Major Crash Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the crash.
