ABC’s primary channel is now available as a Live stream via iview.abc.net.au or the iview app from the App Store or Google Play.

ABC’s Sydney channel (formerly ABC1) can be found with the ‘Watch Live’ button on the ABC channel page on computers, smartphones and tablets. The stream will consume between 200-300 MB per hour.

It joins with ABC News 24, already Live streaming, and follows Seven streaming three channels a month ago. Nine has also announced plans to Live stream its channels in 2016.

Plans are underway to extend Live streaming to other ABC channels next year.

ABC will also switch its primary channel to High Definition in June.

  1. I have always enjoyed iview on my PC….but having issue recently…wonder if all these changes are the cause………I cannot pause now…without it jumping back to the beginning…..most annoying.

  2. Streaming in 360i or whatever horrible resolution iView is, or are there improvements in resolution too? At 200-300MB/hour it would appear to be the same old barely watchable iView untouched since 2007

    1. Yeah, it’s pretty bad. I can get better quality streaming from overseas on an undedicated take-your-chances connection.

I don’t know why ABC has stuck with such a crappy playout for so long when even cash-strapped SBS can manage something that is eminently watchable. SBS’ On Demand consumes around 500 MB/h at the highest rate which gives a pretty decent picture quality.

    2. When you choose to stream something on iView, it now asks if you would prefer to stream at a higher quality. It’s pretty clear, maybe not HD, but definitely an improvement on what it was.
