SBS editor convicted after ‘comedy’ backfires

An SBS video editor who threatening to murder police in the name of Allah on Facebook has been convicted of using a carriage service to menace, harass or ­offend.

Nicholas Hogan, who has worked on Dateline, received a 24-month good behaviour bond at Newtown Local Court yesterday.

The threats were made on the same day as the funeral of murder New South Wales police accountant Curtis Cheng outside Parramatta Police station.

Hogan pleaded guilty and his defence lawyer said the post was an ill-advised piece of satire.

Magistrate Anthony Spence described his actions as reckless and irresponsible .
