  1. Ten’s Big bash commentary seem far more informative and entertaining than Nine’s commentary team. Nine could learn an whole lot of Ten’s innovative coverage. I just seems Nine’s coverage has been lagging in terms of excitement and interest in recent years. They still seem to be sticking with a few old heads and can’t move properly with audience demographics and expectations.

  2. Haven’t watched a Test match on 9 since Aus played India at the Gabba about 5 years ago, the commentary drove me away (especially Mark Taylor and Ian Healy and the rest in various percentages), they never stop rabbitting on, there was never a silent moment to hear the crowd, a snick, the crash of the ball into the stumps etc. 50 over games followed not long after

  3. I was just enjoying the Kyrgios tennis match in glorious HD when I had to change over to 7 crappy definition because the news was over and 7-mate had to play yet another border security show. So frustrating. Why the heck can’t they simulcast on 7-mate. I think I’ll watch the rest of the game on my iPad so I don’t notice the poor resolution.

  4. They going to the games though. Test crowds were way down this summer. Only 47k at The G last night for a ODI against India, and most of those were Indian.

Families seem to prefer the night games of the BBL.

    1. @Pertinax: I think this is due to the ticket prices being around $100 more for international matches than the Big Bash. The TV ratings all summer have shown that international cricket is still a bigger drawcard despite all the hype.

  5. I notice that Ch7 have the Australian Open on all three channels today, a full simulcast without the 6pm news on 7Two and only during the news on 7Mate. Sport is that important to ratings. I suspect that the new channel 76 will be a simulcast of the main channel in HD but, like 7Two today, sport won’t be interrupted by other programs. The “Exciting New Store Opening Soon” banner is always a harbinger of disappointment.
