After a well-received season set in Berlin, Homeland is headed back to home soil.

Showtime CEO David Nevins told press this week it will film its next season “in and around New York City,” but not exclusively.

President of programming Gary Levine said of showrunner / executive producer Alex Gansa, saying, “We are in awe how Alex Gansa and his writers reinvent Homeland every season. It’s exciting to see how they bring it back to the U.S. and reinvent it again.”

Nevins also addressed the fate of Quinn (Rupert Friend), who suffered sarin gas poisoning last season — and was last seen locked in a hospital room with Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes). “I know and have seen exactly as much as you guys have seen,” he said. “There is no definitive answer given.”

Variety notes they also talked about the future of the show, saying they’ve had “vague” discussions with Gansa about a potential end date. “He tends to attack the seasons one by one,” said Nevins.

“It’s not imminent. He sees many seasons to come,” Levine added.

Asked whether he would ever consider a season based on notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera, Nevins said, “Yeah, I’ve thought about that.

“I have no idea if Alex has ever thought of it. I’m just saying I’ve thought of it. It seems a little out of the orbit of the show. But that sort of narco-terrorism is always a possibility.”

  1. There was never a future for Carrie and Quin because they were both damaged souls waiting for fate to decide their destiny and it would seem Quin found his. Going to NY obviously was because of the tax breaks, but terrorism can happen anywhere, which is the dominating message of this show. Producers always see ‘many seasons to come’, it’s part of their job description.

  2. I wasn’t that impressed with S2 & 3, where they tried to wring all the melodrama they could out of Brody and his family.

The last 2 seasons have been well plotted stories about Carrie and Saul.
