NCIS star Michael Weatherly will depart the series.

“After 13 years on NCIS, Michael Weatherly is leaving the show at the end of this season,” CBS confirmed in a statement. “He is a valued part of the CBS family, and the immense charm and talent he brings to the screen as ‘Very’ Special Agent Tony DiNozzo has helped make NCIS what it is today — the No. 1 drama in the world. We thank Michael for all of his contributions to this successful franchise and look forward to continuing to develop projects with him as part of our ongoing development deal.”

“DiNozzo is a wonderful, quixotic character & I couldn’t have had more fun playing him over the past 13 seasons. Les Moonves & CBS gave me the opportunity of a lifetime. I will miss the amazing crew & cast, who are like family to me, & to the fans all over the world — THANK YOU, it’s been a fantastic ride!” he said via Twitter.

The news comes four days after he was sentenced to a three-month driving program, following charges of driving under the influence.

Weatherly has a development deal with CBS Television Studios which will continue the mutual love.

  1. Good luck to him. He has had no other major roles, neither in film nor on television since joining NCIS in 2003. I think he’ll be typecast, that is, if he can bag himself any new roles.

  2. I am sad that Michael Weatherly is leaving NCIS. Tony is one of my favourite characters on the show, along with McGee. That makes me wonder how Michael’s character Tony is going to leave NCIS. I hope he’s not going to be shot dead or worse. I’m hoping he’s going to be promoted or something. I hope whatever show he does next gets shown on TEN.

  3. This will go the way of dr shephard on greys. Dinozzo’s final storyline / episode will make worldwide news including australian news sites thus spoiling the whole season for viewers because of tens choice not to fast track this season. The bad decision of ten not to fast track NCIS has now become a stinker.

Is it really worth watching drama on 7,9,10 anymore? I guess theirs not much choice if you’ve already picked up a show and like it but there is definitely an argument that its not worth picking up new stuff on those channels. With shows being delayed, played around with and having later seasons moved to a paid service these channels have managed to suck the joy out of watching tv.

  4. I am devo’d at his departure. No Tony will see this show drop in ratings. He added the comic side to the show. His role will be hard to fill.
