TV Tonight turns 9!

Blow out the candles and cut the cake, it's time to celebrate another year of passion for the small screen.

Happy birthday to us all… today marks 9 years since the launch of TV Tonight!

Still regarded as the ‘go-to’ site by industry and public alike, the site has notched up another year of bumper traffic, interviews and exclusives.

Over the last twelve months the site was viewed around 17 million times! But let’s not play with numbers like a ratings press release, the industry standard is Unique Visitors per month and the site is averaging 390,000 a month.

Last year TVT featured its 40,000th post (it’s already on the way to 42,000), a logo & site refresh, new Streaming and Video categories, a “nostalgia” week, first set visit to Adelaide, campaigned for more women in the Logie Hall of Fame, threw a sinkhole under Nine, and broke numerous major stories & exclusives including AGT judges, Home & Away induction, X Factor editing out finalists, Kebab Kings consent, first photos of new Wentworth set, ITV production upheavals and pushes from the Greens and FreeTV Australia for primary channels to switch to HD (hey, we won!).

But the site is also distinctive thanks to the people who speak to it and those who read it. My thanks for your ongoing loyalty and shared passion for the small screen.

Over the last 12 months interviews have included Aussie icons, international stars and creatives, industry execs and puppets alike:

  1. A very Happy 9th Birthday to TV Tonight.
Such a wonderful site which, along with all your TVT reader reviews, has introduced me to some brilliant new shows I would have otherwise missed, (as well as “warning” me about some of the more dubious shows not worth watching!)
Keep up the good work, David.

  2. Congrats on a fabulous 9 years! Nowhere else can we get the sort of information and news about Australian TV that you provide on this site.
I would also like to thank all the contributors to the Lounge section. Many times I’ve found out about a new show or a change of schedule through the postings.

  3. Happy Birthday to your blog David Knox…I also do not remember when I first came in….but it was the orange/black period….
How you do this all on your own…plus radio…other writing and travelling for interviews and events….is beyond me …..Like others….I cannot figure out where you manage to fit in sleeping, eating and other necessities of life…*G*….
Still churning it out …even on hiatus….Long may you continue to do so…. 🙂

  4. Congratulations, David. You do great work, and this site helps TV viewers navigate the increasingly unreliable networks with their arbitrary time changes and night shifts of various programs. Without a sanity-saving site like TV Tonight, I think I would’ve given up on FTA by now.

  5. Gosh it has gone quickly. Congrats to you. I’ve been a fan since hearing you on RN some years ago. It’s a staggering effort on your part with what must be a labour of love. Here’s to 9 more.

  6. Congratulations to tv tonight, and to David in particular for creating such a great and informative tv website. Here’s to many more years to come!

  7. A big congrats to you David from me. I’ve been a visitor since the start and you are my first go to for all things television! I don’t know when (or if) you sleep! Amazing effort, year in year out. Ladies and Gentlemen it is all about passion. It is great to join in and be around other impassioned souls on this site. Here’s to double figures next year and big boy pants! 🙂
