World-four-in hand driving champion, Australia’s own Boyd Exell, features on CNN Equestrian during CNN World Sport tonight.

Horses were driven long before they were ridden and, as such, Driving is the oldest competitive equestrian sport yet. Boyd Exell from Australia is the current world number one in driving, an equestrian discipline which involves one horse, a pair, or a team of four horses pulling a driver on a vehicle. He has proved to be a fierce athlete in the current FEI Driving World Cup, leaving his competitors trailing behind. CNN Equestrian meets up with him just ahead of the Final in Bordeaux to find out what it would mean to clinch the gold medal.

“I try to keep my feet on the ground and don’t think of myself as one of the great drivers,” Exell says. “You know, I just enjoy my horses, enjoy my training. The end goal will be when I can’t improve anything more and I have the optimum performance then I’ll maybe retire… but driving a team of horses is like chasing a rainbow.”

11:30pm AEDT tonight on CNN.
