TEN confirms celebrities are allowed to smoke off camera in the TEN jungle.

TEN has been forced to concede some of its cast on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here are being allowed to smoke during production.

Yet none of it has been explained within the storyline or add-on show Get Me Out of Here NOW!

“We will not comment on individuals. But, yes, some people are smoking, as they do in the UK version of the show,” a spokeswoman told News Corp.

“Although celebrities were encouraged to and tried to quit before heading into the jungle, some have struggled more than others. We have a fulltime psychologist to help with quitting and we offer nicotine patches to help with cravings.”

The revelation follows ongoing media speculation as to why Shane Warne was not showing withdrawal symptoms from his 50 a day habit.

Before entering the jungle he said, “Ciggies will be very tough. To give up there’s going to be a lot of phlegm and a lot of stuff coming up so hopefully there’s a spit bucket or something like that. That’s going to be really hard for me because I am a heavy smoker.”

Brendan Fevola and Anthony Callea are also understood to be smokers.

This week Fevola joked on-air that Warne had been visiting the “toki toki” 15 times a day.

The special dispensation for stress relief could favour some celebrities’ ability to cope with the pressure of the isolation. It isn’t clear what kind of stress relief has been offered to non-smoking participants.

It has now been revealed last year’s winner Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff was also allowed to smoke.

  1. I would think the others would smell it. Even if they showered and have breath mints, its a pretty strong smell.

Anthony I think got papped smoking back in Idol days.

  2. I’m disappointed in this but not surprised. Smoking should be banned from these ‘reality’ environments.
I’m a big Hell’s Kitchen fan and am stunned at how almost every contestant every season smokes when their palette is one of their most valuable tools of their trade. Each season I hope Ramsay issues a challenge or incentive to quit.

  3. Not cool at all.
Probably written in to his contract that he gets beer and pizza on the sly as well.
Should have been disclosed straight up that contestants are being allowed to smoke off camera.

  4. Wow. This is bad.

I thought they weren’t allowed access to all these sorts of things? They even mentioned it in promos for the show and when Shane went into camp he said he’d be going cold turkey (Havana asked if he had patches).

Pretty bad they’ve now backtracked. Celebs could leave being healthier. I also thought there were safety issues as well as the fact the smoking footage could not make it to air, so they would just do or say whatever knowing the smoking doesn’t make it to air.

  5. I can’t imagine Warnie signing up if he wasn’t allowed to smoke. I am sure his agent would have fought hard with the producers to allow him cigarettes during the series.

Just surprised he made such a big deal of it when he appeared. I remember him flashing his arms to show that he wasn’t using patches either.

Seems Fevola blew the cat out of the bag – unintentionally. Really Fev – 15 trips to the Toki toki to eat pizza?

  6. Smoking is a habit that’s very hard to stop as I had a neighbour who smoked heavily. It surprises me that Anthony Callea smokes as he is a singer and it could affect his singing voice later in life.
