Destination NSW has its eye on poaching the Logie Awards from Victoria, according to a media report.
News Corp reports the Victorian Government is reviewing its $1 million a year financial backing for the event, with its contract due to expire in 2017.
Film Victoria and Victorian Major Events are investors in the annual awards, but Victorian Government sources claim the Logies had offÂered little financial return.
The biggest return would be in hotels, restaurants and travel with interstate personnel attending the event, but it’s unlikely to lead to further tourism.
Crown would benefit from the publicity, where the event has been held since 1997. Sydney hasn’t hosted the event since 1986.
It isn’t the first time rival destinations have circled the Logies.Â
Back in 2009 Queensland’s then-Bligh Govt informally offered to pay relocation costs to lure the awards north.

But will they have anywhere to party with all the lockout laws. Maybe Adelaide would be a alternative.
Why would Sydney want them mystery to me
Rent seeking broadcasters seek State governments dumb enough to subsidise the Logies. Let’s hope the answer is much ruder than no.
Jamie will want it at Barangaroo once it opens.
Give them to Tassie and then cut the Basslink communications cable.
What’s Tasmania ever done to annoy you?
Give the Logies to Perth & then cut Nava-1…
In an ideal world would be nice to see them rotate broadcasters and maybe venues to bring in some fresh ideas.
Absolutely. This is what happens in America and if they want the Logies to be seen as credible, they should do the same thing here instead of being locked into the Nine Network.
Yeah, I remember years ago them being in Sydney. The Aria’s are in Sydney, they could hold them there.
