Nine has formally announced the cast for its upcoming drama series, Doctor Doctor produced by Essential Media (Rake, Jack Irish, The Principal).

Rodger Corser will play Hugh Knight, described as ‘a rising star in the heart surgery ranks. He is gifted, charming, infallible, a hedonist who – due to his sheer talent – believes he can live outside the rules. But his “work hard, play harder” philosophy is about to come back and bite him. Hard.’

Also joining the cast are Nicole da Silva, Ryan Johnson, Hayley McElhinney, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Tina Bursill, Chloe Bayliss and Dave Eastgate.

Nine’s Heads of Drama, Jo Rooney and Andy Ryan, said: “We are delighted to join forces with Essential Media & Entertainment on this irreverent new family drama series. With its stellar cast and beautiful rural setting, Doctor Doctor is a breath of fresh air and further proof of Nine’s commitment to Australian content.”

The series is now in pre-production by Essential Media & Entertainment, with executive producers Andy Ryan and Jo Rooney from the Nine Network and producers Ian Collie, Claudia Karvan and Tony McNamara from Essential Media & Entertainment.

Filming will commence in April in Sydney and country NSW.

  1. So very disappointed to see yet another Australian medical drama with an all-white cast. In every Australian hospital I’ve been to in the last decade at least 50% of the doctors are brown skinned, from diverse cultural backgrounds. And people wonder where Pauline Hanson, her voters, and the likes of Sonia Kruger get their racist ideas from.

  2. I thought Nicole da Silva still had commitments to Foxtel and Wentworth… Oh well, better watch the end of the last season in case I missed something.
