Telegraph deletes story on Sam Armytage “absence”

A scheduled holiday for Sam Armytage turns into a ratings story .....before being scuttled.

The Daily Telegraph has deleted a story it ran yesterday claiming Samantha Armytage had been told to take a break from Sunrise, coinciding with a rise in Today‘s ratings.

“Sam Armytage takes time off from a sinking Sunrise“, the headline declared.

“Samantha Armytage’s absence from Sunrise this week coincides with rumours the TV anchor has been urged by Seven Network bosses to take a break from the breakfast show as the ascendant Today program continues to thrash the once unassailable Sunrise …” it began.

But Seven insisted her absence had been planned long ago, to coincide with Easter non-ratings.

Armytage returns on Monday.

  1. How has Annette Sharp not been sued by now?
    This story pales in comparison to some of the diabolical articles she has written in the past about people. But she certainly seems to have a thing about Armytage.

  2. I’m glad other people have realised the attacks on Sam are just a personal vendetta by Annette Sharp……I thought I was the only one that saw through her pathetic rubbish!

News limited and Annette Sharp seem to have it in for sunrise.it’s just one negative story after another in the daily telegraph.the other week the tele had a photo of the sunrise hosts and the today show hosts .of course Lisa and Karl all smiling and happy photo the photo of kosh and Sam was so terrible .News has no credibility when reporting stories ..sunrise is still far far better viewing than today .

  4. I like the whole Sunrise cast but feel the changes to the format were too much too soon. Suttle changes are fine but the format was not broken. Great to see Nelson back on just before 8am the other day .Sam is awesome andt feel all the vicious attacks on her are really ugly and nasty.

  5. Maybe Sunrise should look at replacing Sam Mac their weather presenter- he is terrible. I’m also thinking obviously the big renovations and all that other stuff they did over the xmas and summer break is not paying off

  6. Samantha Armytage and Eddie McGuire have a lot in common. Both are seriously… …well not exactly Einsteinian! Poor Eddie even needs prompting to pronounce his quiz questions correctly, like the names of the Hawaiian islands, and factorial the mathematical function!

  8. I think Sam is a big liability to Sunrise now. A lot of people don’t like her and how she got to the position she has at Sunrise. The only reason she has stayed as long as she has is because Pell likes her. I have enjoyed Nat hosting she is a seasoned professional.

    1. Sunrise the show has been number one at breakfast for how many years now very year for the last ten years or so..last year sunrise was number one .don’t believe the garbage in the daily tele.Sam is very popular with the viewers.

    2. Totally agree. Great week just gone with Nat hosting. Relevant and funny. The bosses above Pell need to say Sam has to go. She is a poor in interviewer and always tries to make every thing about her.

  9. Was that written by Annette Sharpe who seems to have it in for Sam? I just assumed when Sam wasnt on this week she was away probably seeing her family. The different presenters are often away doing stuff.

    Like when Nat was absent Good Friday. Just figured she was in WA seeing her mum. They usually do say at the start of the show so and so is off having a holiday.

    But I didnt read anything into it and again a story has been made up when it didn’t need to be.

  11. Sam is the last person they would look to replace due to the falling ratings. Kochie, Nat and Beretts have been there much longer and are far more likely to be in the firing line. I’d not be surprised if Eddie replaces Nat as newsreader soon….
