Comedian Chris Taylor won’t be on The Chaser’s Election Desk this season, leaving the driving to his co-stars Julian Morrow, Chas Licciardello, Craig Reucassel and Andrew Hansen.

“Chris won’t be on the desk this year,” Julian Morrow confirmed. “He’s working on a narrative (comedy) with the ABC and he’s doing some radio and a bit of other stuff.

“He decided to hang up his… well it’s not really a Kerry O’Brien pen.

“At one level it’s always fun when it’s all hands on the desk, literally, but also the team has been evolving, particularly with The Check-Out in the last few years. The size and diversity of the writing room of The Chaser has never been stronger. I don’t think anybody has ever said ‘The Chaser needs a few more white, old men on the team.’”

Taylor teased his development deal to TV Tonight a year ago, saying “I’m excited about it because it’s my first narrative comedy.”

The Chaser’s Election Desk premieres on June 8 on ABC and is already creating waves. Yesterday Chas Licciardello tested Malcolm Turnbull’s trust by collapsing drama-school style before him, while Craig Reucassel followed Turnbull around Penrith with a cardboard cut-out of Tony Abbott.

“It was quite good to get two bites of the Prime Ministerial cherry,” Morrow laughed.

“It was a ‘trust exercise’ which is the iconic question of elections. Then Craig had a little bit of time, probably more with the Federal Police than with the Prime Minister, which is often case.

“But we always like it when the Prime Minister is in our backyard.”
