Next week SBS premieres UK series Sugar Free Farm which sees Brit personalities, including The Chase‘s Mark Labbett, attempting to break their sugar addiction (some will struggle to be recognised here however….).

This is a 3 part series which premiered in the UK in January.

Going cold turkey from sugar can be seriously tough. Embarking on the radical regime are musical theatre star Jane McDonald, comedian Rory McGrath, quiz mastermind from The Chase Mark Labbett, actress Tupele Dorgu, The Only Way is Essex reality TV star James ‘Arg’ Argent and dancer Jennifer Ellison, all living entirely without sugar for two weeks. On hand to keep the celebrities on the sugar-free wagon is nutritionist Angelique Panagos.

Turning their backs on the modern food industry, they live and work on a country farm in return for their share of healthy, wholesome food. Breaking their sugar addiction will push their bodies to the limits.

Episode One:
As the workers get stuck into their new lives on the farm, they’re tasked with milking water buffalo, rounding up pigs and poultry, and fertilising the crops. But the dramas soon begin: Arg has an expensive accident and Jennifer Ellison struggles to come to terms with the harsh realities of farm life. They discover that even fast food favourites like chicken nuggets can be made sugar free. An afternoon in the veggie garden sees Jen and Jane take a turn for the worse as the sugar-free detox takes hold.

7:30pm Thursday June 9 on SBS.

  1. That would be my idea of hell, having to do farm chores, without sugar! I have read that sugar interacts with similar brain chemicals as substances like cocaine hence very addictive. i believe it too, having made the stupid move of thinking i could kick my coke zero habit by using regular coke to ween me off, & guess what? lol
