Well this is disappointing…..
HBO has axed 70s rock drama Vinyl after just one season.
The series, co-produced by Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese, was actually renewed for a second season shortly after the show’s premiere, but as things progressed there were doubts about its performance.
In addition to mixed reviews and low ratings, the show also suffered the loss of Terence Winter, its show runner, in early April. HBO executives hoped that his replacement, Scott Z. Burns, would help give new life to the series for its second season. But in the end it decided to shut it down.
“Obviously, this was not an easy decision,” HBO said in a statement. “We have enormous respect for the creative team and cast for their hard work and passion on this project.”
Despite drama successes such as Game of Thrones HBO also not renewed True Detective after a disappointing second season, while Westworld will begin in coming months after several delays. Looking has also wrapped with two seasons. It concludes with a movie finale in July along with the premiere of limited series The Night Of starring John Turturro.

disappointed, liked the show.
I agree with the sentiments, the first episode was great (maybe it should have just been a movie) and then it went downhill
They should reconsider cancelling The Leftovers.
Season 3, which will be on later this year, is the final one.
Sorry, misread your comment! I didn’t see ‘reconsider’. I’m actually glad it’s the last season, I don’t have any faith Lindelof will wrap it up properly but I find it really hard to quit a show once I start. God help me, I still watch Supernatural and that’s been poo for years ?
I think he is suggesting there should be a 4th.
This show was supposed to be Boardwalk Empire’s replacement. When Terrence Winter departed the show you knew something was up. HBO and Terrence Winter need to stick with whats worked best in the past – gangster shows like the Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire. I wouldn’t mind a spin off from Boardwalk Empire focusing more on Al Capone. Stephen Graham was amazing as Capone on that show.
No suprises here, thought Vinyl was a boring, pile of mess. Watched a couple of episodes before giving up, scorsese has done much better work than Vinyl.
He directed the first only, which I liked. Agree the series was uneven, but some moments very good. Bobby Cannavale was very strong.
I can’t say i got right into it, I still have about 4 episodes to watch on my IQ….. I also have a feeling the new Sarah Jessica Parker program from HBO is going to be a dud too…. And Girls has already announced its final season too…. Not looking good for HBO at all
Troubled times ahead for HBO. Without Game of Thrones and John Oliver, the cupboard is looking a little bare.
They have Curb Your Enthusiasm next year and a new drama series Sharp Objects (Gillian Flynn novel) has been commissioned with a great cast – if it’s anywhere near as good as the source material it should be a hit, it’s as dark and intriguing as the first True Detective. Westworld has a lot of buzz, also has a strong cast and is familiar with the potential audience because of the movie. I *think* they are going to do Watchmen and considering how popular graphic novel turned TV series have been the last few years that has possibilities. It already has a big built in audience who want to see a better adaptation after the disappointment of the movie. And GOT still have 2 short seasons left. So there’s hope ?
