Empire, The Big Bang Theory, The X-Files and Grey’s Anatomy are amongst the top rating shows in the US 2015-16 TV year.
NBC’s Sunday Night Football topped the year averaging over 21 million viewers.
In the US the share in the 18-49 demo is crucial, more than Total People. On that front FOX’s Empire was the top scripted drawcard, ahead of The Big Bang Theory (despite the latter having nearly 5 million more viewers). Empire ruled despite a 9.9% decline from last season. Big Bang was one of the only scripted series to grow its ratings, up 3.6% from the previous year.
In a year when scripted dramas struggled, Criminal Minds, Scorpion, The Blacklist, Gotham and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD all lost ground.
Blindspot was the only new series to crack the top 20.

Is The CW just a CBS multi channel?
The 18-49 demo is more crucial than Total People in Australia as well. It’s just that this country’s media has an obsession with reporting the Total People numbers, over and above the demos.
Tell it to OzTAM? Hard to report on a 5 show limit tezza! TVT publishes total, demos, timeshifted, FTA, STV and weekly wins.
I did wonder how Greys rated for its Season Final. But on 76Flix, it is less likely to equate to much. yet it used to be a flagship US drama in their schedule and only declined significantly after it was messed about with double episodes.
Also 7flix isn’t available all over Australia and the episodes on channel 7 are behind what’s airing on 7flix so 7 seemed to have found another way to muck around with greys. Funnily enough fetch finally fixed the issues the 7flix but greys is over and I’m not watching anything else on that channel due to issues from both 7 and fetch since the channel started so it was a bit late of fix.
What did you think of the final episode?
I haven’t seen it yet, but will check back in when I have ? And let you know
It was eventful and left us hanging! I enjoyed it though! Left it open for the next season…
I thought there were so many storylines going on that nothing got fleshed out properly. It was like two episodes into one. But I did like it and totally curious as to what will happen next season.
Yeah there was an awful lot going on with nothing resolved!
So many of these shows failed here in Australia. I believe Empire is on at 11pm on Eleven and the X-files was soundly beaten by My Kitchen Rules. When the Emmy nominations are announced soon , a lot of Australians will scratch their heads and ask ‘Huh?’
What show was not beaten by my kitchen rules?
Some big falls there!
Would be good if OzTam did something like. Would be interesting to see which shows rank where across the total calendar year.
They do and I run it….. but the coding skews it to a lot of “winners announced” and sports / reality titles.
So much mediocrity being rewarded.
Here’s a question: which low ratings shows do better in DVD / Blu-Ray / Digital download sales, than the higher rating shows?
