Telstra is shutting down its Mobile Foxtel portal and related Android and iOS apps, in favour of pushing subscribers to streaming services Foxtel Go and Presto.

“We provide a range of entertainment products to suit our customers’ needs. We’ve seen a particularly strong appetite for on-demand style content, as people become more accustomed to watching what they want, when they want. And this is why we’ll be closing Mobile Foxtel,” it said online.

Mobile Foxtel offered up to 34 channels as an unmetered service, and included an Airplay ability. Both Foxtel Go and Presto will use data from your monthly data cap, without Airplay feature.

Current subscribers will be able to use their subscription up until the the 27th of July while users are not charged after the 23rd of June.

  1. I guess the writing was on the wall here. Telstra is slowly pulling out of Foxtel, wanting to sell off its share. I’ve used the service off and on

    1. Not only that, telstra is slowly pulling out of everything unmetered. They took away metered MOG and replaced it with metered Apple Music. They took away the BigPond branded mobile broadband plans which had a wide range of content unmetered, including foxtel go/play. They are now taking away mobile foxtel.

I really liked mobile foxtel and even as a postpaid customer I used it many times.

Meanwhile Optus is adding more unmetered content bringing sport unmetered (soccer + cricket + more in future) and unmetered radio for their prepaid customers (hopefully coming to postpaid soon)

      1. I was an occasional Mobile Foxtel subscriber as it was great when traveling/ spare moments at lunch etc. Telstra has AFL and NRL unmetered streaming and free subscriptions for those on a plan. Pre-paid users can stream for free as well I believe (haven’t tried it to be sure).
Foxtel Go should be unmetered on mobile Telstra, would certainly bring some customers in. But I guess Telstra is moving away from Foxtel so that’s not likely.

  2. Sad this service is closing. I’ve been a regular user for over 5 years. One correction: it doesn’t offer AirPlay on iPhone because you must have wifi switched off in order to allow access to the app so it uses the Telstra mobile network. I now have no good reason to keep my mobile with Telstra.
