1.88m as MasterChef finale soars

Ratings: TEN scores an impressive 32.7% share, as Elena Duggan is crowned 2016 champion.

MasterChef‘s 2016 finished on a high of 1.88m as Elena Duggan won the 2016 title. At close to 10pm it drew a whopping 703,000 viewers in Melbourne and 517,000 in Sydney.

The bulk of the show was watched by 1.71m viewers, with both topping the Demos and helping TEN to an impressive share for the night.

The finale was lower than 2015’s win by Billie McKay which drew 2.13m / 1.84m viewers, but is higher than 2014’s win by Brent Owens.

No surprises that other networks took a hit last night, but Seven News and A Current Affair were timeslot winners before the main event. Under 500,000 Winners and Losers must surely have been an all-time low.

TEN network won with 32.7% then Seven 24.8%, Nine 21.0%, ABC 15.0% and SBS 6.5%.

Following MasterChef for TEN was The Project (813,000 / 535,000). Life in Pieces launched to 638,000 and TEN Eyewitness News was 474,000.

Seven News (1.17m / 1.14m) led for Seven then Home and Away (791,000), The Chase (694,000 / 460,000), Make You LOL (474,000) and Winners and Losers (465,000 / 450,000).

Nine News (1.15m / 1.10m) was best for Nine then A Current Affair (849,000), Hot Seat (659,000) and Britain’s Got Talent (551,000).

On ABC it was ABC News (837,000), 7:30 (630,000), Catalyst (593,000), Martin Clunes: Man and Beast (434,000), Foreign Correspondent (346,000) and Antiques Roadshow (310,000).

Great Continental Railway Journeys (347,000), Insight (259,000), SBS World News (186,000) and Dateline (157,000) comprised the night at SBS.

Shaun the Sheep sure was best on multichannels with 331,000.

    1. Well for starters the show didn’t have a strong reality show before it last year to help boost numbers. This in turn resulted in the double episodes being played out which further hurt the show. The first few episodes of the current season were terrible and wouldn’t have helped the shows cause either.

  1. ‘Life in Pieces’ is a strange beast-effectively four short films with overlapping casts-I would think 10 will repeat it a couple of times before the next new ep given the 10 pm showing was so far away from the regular slot for it.
