A US small screen version of Behind Enemy Lines, which starred Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman, is in development.

FOX is developing a pilot to be written by Nikki Toscano (Shades of Blue, State of Affairs, Revenge and Bates Motel), after an earlier version written by Jeffrey Nachmanoff did not proceed.

Inspired by the film, the new version is described as a high-octane military thriller, that takes place in the midst of critical peace negotiations between the US and Russia, as three American soldiers are shot down behind enemy lines in Eastern Ukraine.

Loosely based on a real story, the 2001 feature grossed $92 million worldwide and three direct-to-video sequels.

Back for the new version are 20th Century FOX TV, studio-based Temple Hill and Davis Entertainment.
