Garry Lyon signals return in 2017

Former Footy Show host signals a return to the limelight -but a position at Nine may be difficult.

Former Footy Show host Garry Lyon has indicated to friends he is ready to return to television next year.

But a return to the AFL Footy Show may not be straightforward, given the falling out of his friendship with Billy Brownless. Nine also introduced Rebecca Maddern to the show, with a panel already at capacity.

Lyon also hosted Footy Classified prior to his absence for rehabilitation.

The Herald Sun suggests he could be considered by Seven’s AFL coverage.

Earlier this year Billy Brownless offered a glimmer of reconciliation.

“It’d be bloody hard. I wouldn’t know what to say to him. What do you say?” he said.

“When the time’s right, we’ll sit down and have a couple of beers.”

  1. I feel like The AFL Footy show has lost something without Garry there. I like Bec Maddern, but the laughs have been minimal at best over the last few months… It’s always been a dopey kind of show which for me was part of its charm. I like to be entertained however awkward the set up on this show might have been in the past, and lately it has failed to keep me entertained, or engaged for that matter…

      1. It definitely wins in Melb as a general rule, I’m not so sure about elsewhere these days that’s all.
Hasnt it been roughly 450k-ish lately (incl NRL FS)?
I was more wondering what the removal of Nissan’s rumoured $2mil pa would do to it, surely that was helping pay talent/costs?
I guess time will tell. It would be strange to not see the Footy Shows on but I’m guessing they both have shelf lives.
