US actor Peter Scolari from Girls has landed a belated Emmy nomination after Veep‘s Peter MacNicol was sadly withdrawn by organisers.

The TV Academy ruled MacNicol had technically appeared in more than 50% of Veep‘s season ruling him ineligible as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series -at the time of his submission HBO had advised he was eligible but he resurfaced in “documentary” footage in a later episode.

Scolari, who plays Hannah Horvath’s (Lena Dunham) father Tad, now joins Tracy Morgan and Larry David (Saturday Night Live), Bob Newhart (The Big Bang Theory), Bradley Whitford (Transparent) and Martin Mull (Veep) in the category.

The TV Academy added: “This decision is in no way a diminishment of Mr MacNicol’s stellar performance on this season of Veep.”
