Thursday was such a run of the mill night in ratings, with sport commitments, and MasterChef again leading the pack in entertainment….

So let’s turn our attention to dear old SBS which managed a reasonable share for the night of 7.1%. What stands out is the popularity of Tour de France. The 196,000 who watched is an average of its 4 hour broadcast from 10pm – 2am. What is remarkable is that it outranked all other SBS shows for the night, including the regular foodie line-up for Thursday.

Seven network won Thursday with 31.1%, then Nine 23.6%, TEN 21.8%, ABC 16.4% and SBS 7.1%.

Seven News was #1 with 1.02m / 843,000 in 4 cities for Seven then The Chase (637,000 / 416,000), AFL (483,000 in 2 cities), Home and Away (432,000 in 3 cities), The World’s Best Metro (288,000 in 3 cities). Big Bang Theory was 184,000 in 3 cities.

Nine News (1.02m / 1.01m) led for Nine followed by A Current Affair (775,000), Hot Seat (601,000) and RBT (547,000). NRL Footy Show was 238,000 in 2 cities, and movie: Titanic was 141,000 in 3 cities.

MasterChef Australia drew 970,000 / 677,000 for TEN. The Project was 694,000 / 495,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 489,000, SVU was 350,000.

  1. One of the best MC Episodes yet! Also SVU Was good and I would never have picked that guy as the rapist/Murderer, it could have got like another 100k+ if they bothered to promote that it was on!!!!

  2. I was watching Le Tour from 8:30pm. The Bastille Day stage is always a mongrel and this one didn’t disappoint. Certainly didn’t expect to see the Yellow Jersey running up Mont Ventoux without a bike. Absolute classic.

      1. That was caused by the high winds on the top of Mont Ventoux. The organisers cut the last 6km from the stage so most of the people who would have been there ended up lower down resulting in overcrowding. The winds also prevented the usual crowd control barriers from being erected along the final few kms.

The increase in security was definitely in response to the Nice attack, which was only 150 km away. There was a much stronger police presence around the starting gate for the time trial on Friday as well as around the podium and the media huts. There were more police in amongst the crowd along the route and more police motor cycles on the road itself.

The organisers stated that the increase in security was in response to the Nice attack altho’ a possible ancillary benefit will be better crowd management near the tops of the big climbs. Guess we’ll see tonight.

  3. once again channel10 stuffed up.
last week viewers such as myself missed out on Law&Order SVU because they put on a reply offspring on, and last night they showed svu but after it finished they put on the replay of offspring and we missed BlueBloods.
    Come on 10

    1. No, no overseas crime procedurals for you. You must watch Offspring over and over again until we can add all the numbers up to something moderately impressive that we can put in a media release.
