The BBC is reviving Robot Wars, its robot battle series, which aired in various versions from 1998 – 2004.

Filmed in a purpose-built fighting arena in Glasgow, each episode features eight warring robots under the command of amateur enthusiasts competing for the title of Robot Wars Champion. The Arena contains the hazards of Fire, Spikes, The Flipper and The Iconic Pit.

Originally hosted by Jeremy Clarkson before Craig Charles, the new series will be hosted by Dara Ó Briain and Angela Scanlon, with Jonathan Pearce returning to commentate.

It will include such distinctive robot entrants as Vulcan, Nuts, Razer, Bonk, Shockwave, Thor, Tough as Nails and Glitterbomb.

As well as battling it out against each other, the robot teams must avoid House Robots, Sir Killalot, Matilda, Shunt and Dead Metal, all ready to destroy.

No broadcast details for Australia are yet announced.

  1. Awesome, robotics has probably advanced somewhat since 2004 so should be some great match ups. Won’t be the same without Craig Charles though.

    1. Except, unfortunately, these aren’t robots. They’re radio-controlled vehicles (well, human-controlled via a radio link). The only tech advancement that’s likely to have an effect is the ability to print 3D parts.
