Vale: Darrell Ward

Truck driver Darrell Ward, best known for Ice Road Truckers, has died aged 52.

He was killed in a plane crash while flying from Texas to Montana to begin filming a new documentary series.

Ward joined the History channel-produced series in its sixth season but has remained up to the 10th season.

“We are saddened by the tragic loss of Darrell Ward, a beloved member of the History family,” the channel said in a statement.

“He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”

The US National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
