Airdate: The Crown

Based on the award-winning play The Audience, this 10 part drama begins in early November.

The Crown

Totally looking forward to upcoming Netflix drama The Crown.

Based on the award-winning play, The Audience, the 10 part series tells the inside story of Queen Elizabeth II’s early reign, revealing the personal intrigues, romances, and political rivalries behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th Century.

The series stars Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II, Matt Smith as Prince Phillip, John Lithgow as Sir Winston Churchill, Victoria Hamilton as the Queen Mother, Jared Harris as King George VI, Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret and Dame Eileen Atkins as Queen Mary, among others.

It is written by Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon) with director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) and producer Andy Harries (The Queen).

A Netflix original series, The Crown focuses on Queen Elizabeth II as a 25-year-old newlywed faced with the daunting prospect of leading the world’s most famous monarchy while forging a relationship with legendary Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill. The British Empire is in decline, the political world is in disarray, and a young woman takes the throne….a new era is dawning. Peter Morgan’s masterfully researched scripts reveal the Queen’s private journey behind the public facade with daring frankness. Prepare to be welcomed into the coveted world of power and privilege and behind locked doors in Westminster and Buckingham Palace….the leaders of an empire await.

Friday November 4 on Netflix.

  1. This does look good. I was planning to resume my netflix subscription in time for gilmore girls but it now looks like I will have quite a few shows to check out around that time. Besides the crown there will be designated survivor, new eps of fuller house which are released on december 9 (announced on Netflix australia facebook), season 2 jane the virgin on oct 17 (announced in a comment on Netflix australia facebook) and season 2 of the good witch which is already available. Its nice to be able to subscribe and have more than one series to watch.

  2. Totally looking forward to this too. Media folk at the Television Critics Association tour in the US revently were treated by Netflix to the first few episodes and it got an overwhelmingly positive response. Netflix apparently are so confident that this is going to be a huge critical success for them ala House of Cards, they are already talking up sweeping the board at the Emmys next year in the absence of Game of Thrones. It’s clear from the trailers that Claire Foy and Matt Smith are superb, but apparently the actors playing King George and Princess Margaret get a lot of the best early scenes. Could be drama of the year given the lavish amount spent on it.

    1. Yep Netflix I read is expecting this show to span 60 episodes over 6 seasons, over time.

Also new Rick and Morty at the end of next month. S6 of Still Game and Chewin The Fat S1 coming.
