Big guns take aim at TV next Monday

Monday is looming as one of the biggest dates on the TV calendar in recent months.

In case you hadn’t noticed, next Monday is shaping up as one of the biggest TV fights in recent months.

Seven is effectively resetting its schedule for the final assault on the year -one it already has in the bag.

The X Factor is back at 7:30pm with its first auditions and new judges Guy Sebastian, Iggy Azalea and Adam Lambert. It will follow with the first of 6 episodes of The Secret Daughter featuring Jessica Mauboy.

Nine continues The Block which is having a good run this season and will lead into the premiere of Hyde & Seek led by Matt Nable. It effectively puts two new local dramas head to head.

Sunday would have been an ideal night for one of the dramas to take up residence but it would doubtless mean a late start short of moving 60 Minutes or a 9pm start for Seven.

TEN will hold steady with Australian Survivor and Have You Been Paying Attention?

Pay TV weighs into the fray with the launch of Westworld. This will have a 12 midday AEDT simulcast with the US followed by a primetime repeat. Another new HBO drama will premiere at 9:30pm with Quarry, which includes Aussie Damon Herriman in the cast.

Amongst the other additions to next Monday include the return of Person of Interest at 10:45pm on Nine, while Stan returns Ash vs Evil Dead for Streaming subscribers.

  1. Not sure that 7 care about ratings when they have nearly won the year. They are showing copious repeats of Escape to the Country on 7two and it reminds me when they yanked City Homicide (has that been axed yet?) mid season and I stopped watching.

    1. Of course they care. What they actually care about is profit, and better ratings will enable them to get a bigger slice of the dwindling TV advertising pie. They even care about ratings during the non-ratings periods. I know – crazy!

      1. Well I wish they would show new episodes on 7Two and they could win by a larger margin!
What they don’t realise is they are pushing viewers to 9Life and they may not come back…
I have already found some new lifestyle favourites!

    1. I agree. Some of the dramas are not PG-rated enough for 7.30, but others are. Even if it has to start after 8.30pm, please make it 8.30 sharp, not wandering in somewhere after the previous show decides to end.

  2. With all the new Aussie dramas it’s become like the American fall season. I’ll probably end up checking them all out and watching shows I originally thought I wouldn’t. It’s happened with Doctor, Doctor, I’m along for that ride.

  3. Seven’s figures should be good with multis added in then, as also you have Once Upon A Time, Grey’s Anatomy, Quantico, How To Get Away With Murder and Scandal on 7Flix.

  4. Aussie drama overload! While I want to watch them all, the scheduling means I need to make allegiances. I think I’ll stick with Doctor Doctor (Sunday encore hopefully continuing), The Wrong Girl and Brock.
