Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop and WA Premier Colin Barnett last night officially opened Nine’s new Perth CBD studios, cutting a blue ribbon with Nine News presenters Tim McMillan and Emmy Kubainski.

Nine began broadcasting from the building at 253 St Georges Terrace last week. The 2,500 sq m office space features three buildings interconnected in a campus-style layout, a fully digitised studio with windows for public viewing and an outdoor Nine Plaza.

“After 51 years in Dianella, congratulations on your move to this magnificent site with an incredible studio right in the heart of the CBD. It’s an amazing addition to this city,” said the Premier.

“I’m delighted to declare open Channel Nine’s new Perth studio.”

Managing Director Ray Wardrop said, “This is by far the most modern broadcast facility in the country and it significantly enhances our capabilities, particularly in the way we bring you the news. Thank you for joining us for this truly historic occasion.

Amongst the 250 guests were Nine Network Chief Financial Officer Greg Barnes, State Opposition Leader Mark McGowan, Lord Mayor of Perth Lisa Scaffidi, Nine personalities Lucy Durack and Claire Lovering, plus media and clients.

“Nine has been part of the fabric of Western Australia for over 5 decades. Generations have welcomed us into their homes, and this is a real privilege. Our move into the city marks an exciting new era for the company and for television in Perth,” said Wardrop.
