Labor looks set to reject changes to the two-out-of-three cross-media ownership rule, according to media reports.
The Australian claims former communications minister Stephen Conroy is strongly opposed to axing the rule, which stops proprietors owning a newspaper, radio and free-to-air TV licence in the same metropolitan market.
Key crossbenchers are also still undecided on their positions, the article claims. Nick Xenophon is still consulting with key stakeholders on the reform package and is yet to formulate an official view.
Labor will support the the abolition of the reach rule, but Communications Minister Mitch Fifield has already ruled out splitting the package.

Perhaps if the changes included regulation or incentive to stimulate production (in turn the economy), cross party support would be more likely?
The PM got into this mess now he has to live with it!!
Senator Conroy should really try his hand at something else. Helping shape the future of the country isn’t his strong suit.
Remember the NBN? You won’t forget the MTM.
Someone tell Conroy and Labor that Tim Berners-Lee invented something called the World Wide Web a while back and seems to be catching on.
And where does the WWW get its news from? It wouldn’t be Newspapers, TV or Radio by any chance?
Ahh politicians… I sometimes think this country would run better without them…
