Rumours surround “toxic” relationship between Sam Newman & producers

"He was not ill. He had refused to go on," reports claim. But Nine says otherwise.

It wouldn’t be the first time Sam Newman wouldn’t be seeing eye to eye with management, but things may be getting a little heated at The Footy Show if media reports are accurate.

Two weeks ago Newman did not appear on the show, but entertainment reporter Peter Fold
today told 3AW, “My information is that Sam Newman’s relationship with both the management at Channel Nine and also the senior production staff on The Footy Show has now become ‘toxic.’

“You might recall the week before last Sam was missing for a show and we were told he was ill. He was not ill. He had refused to go on that night after what we would probably broadly refer to as ‘artistic differences.'”

Ford said Newman’s issue surrounds nervousness from management about “triggering reactions, where people are suddenly organising boycotts and protests.”

In recent months Nissan publicly distanced itself from Newman’s recent comments regarding Nine presenter Caroline Wilson, amid suggestions it could ditch sponsorship worth $2m.

Yesterday a Nine spokesperson told TV Tonight “Sam was definitely sick…” but declined to further detail his illness.

Peter Ford told TV Tonight, “What he had was the shits… I stand by my story.

“Sam was intending to reignite a debate with Caroline Wilson but this was closed down and this angered him and the way he believes it was dictated to him.”

  1. Time for Sam to go. Billy is so much better and funnier. Rebecca Madden has raised the tone of the show. Her interview with Michael Hurley was excellent. You can see in Bec’s face sometimes her disapproval Sam’s drivel.
Also the GF show normally sells out the first night it is advertised, they are still trying to flog tickets….audience speaks.

    1. Yeah the audience may well be speaking…..they may want to ensure that Sam is gonna be there along with characters like Gary and Fev……
